Ipswich Imperial Century
Description
This is a reasonably easy imperial century. There are only two
real climbs, but most of the remainder is undulating enough to
stop boredom. It is all on sealed roads, most of which are
quiet, traffic wise. Usually, it is used as a one day ride,
however, it could be done as a loaded two day tour. There
are caravan parks at Gatton, Atkinsons Dam and Lowood.
Scenery
Rolling Downs used mainly for cattle grazing. There is
intensive cultivation around Forest Hill and the road to
Gatton.
Route Details
The road to Rosewood is undulating. Food and water can be obtained
at Rosewood. The Granchester Range is crossed between Rosewood
and Laidley. It is not a major climb. Laidley has good food
shops, toilets and water. The road to Forest Hill is flat to
undulating. Forest Hill has a small shop, toilets and water.
After Forest Hill, the road is flat until the Esk Road and it
then becomes undulating. There is a service station near the Warrego
highway where water can be obtained. The Atkinsons Dam sign is
small and
can be easily missed. Food can be obtained at Atkinsons Dam
and Lowood. After Lowood, the route is flat to undulating
until the Warrego highway is crossed. Then there are
two climbs up the Tallagalla hills. After this it is
undulating through Rosewood and back to Ipswich through
Walloon.
