• It exists to provide bicycle touring information, primarily for nonlocal bicycle tourists, but local cyclists may find the ride descriptions useful.
• I am from Brisbane and, from a bicycle touring viewpoint, regard South East Queensland and Northern New South Wales as my backyard. Thus, most of the information pertains to this region. Route descriptions and ride reports are provided on riding between the southern Queensland border and Mackay by non coastal routes to encourage bicycle tourists to travel other than coastal routes. The coastal route greatly limits the enjoyment of bicycle touring in Queensland.

  In general, the coastal region is heavily populated and the roads carry heavy motorised traffic. They seldom have shoulders and are not suited to bicycle touring. Thus, all rides described are located in non-coastal areas. If you are looking for a coastal route north from the Queensland border or for coastal rides, quit this site now.

Site Organisation

Both day and multi day ride descriptions are provided. Both can be intermixed to tailor a tour to your requirements. Usually a detailed route slip and a map is provided. The Acrobat reader is required to view and print these. It is available free of charge from Adobe. The maps are not detailed and should not be regarded as a substitute for commercial maps. Major hills, heavy traffic and other features which may affect a bicycle tourist are usually noted. Facilities in towns are usually described. If a food, water or accommodation point is not mentioned, generally it does not exist.

Scenery descriptions and descriptions of other attractions are cursory. The tourist should have an expectation of discovery. Because of this philosophy, the site is photographic image free.

Where prices are indicated, they are in Australian dollars. The Australian dollar fluctuates in value, but is usually about $USD 0.74 in value.
